Historical Background

The Book of Saint Albans ("Boke of Seynt Albans") of 1486 is a compilation of matters relating to the interests of the time of a young nobleman (falconry, hunting, and heraldy). It was printed by the St Albans Press, a part of the Benedictine Saint Albans monastary, and was the third printing press in England at the time. The Book of Saint Albans is the first book printed in color in England. The font is a form of Blackletter Textualis, modeled on Caxton's typefaces at the time.
